Safety

Connie Hudson’s highest priority is protecting families and reducing violent crime. The senseless gun violence we see happening almost daily in our city has become an epidemic and will require a strong and strategic approach to take back our city from the criminals who ignore laws and devalue human life. This will require a multi-pronged strategy that includes an expansion of law enforcement, tougher and more visible policing, alternative education, community-based partnerships, neighborhood revitalization, expanded job opportunities and an improved quality of life. Connie will work with local, state, and federal legislators to address the revolving door of crime and change laws to ensure that increased enforcement is met with the criminal justice accountability and punishment that citizens expect.

With her experience in public service on both the Mobile City Council and County Commission, Connie has consistently supported prioritizing public safety. She’s advocated for the expansion of police precincts and fire stations – reducing response times and making neighborhoods safer. She has supported the largest expansion of law enforcement funding in Mobile County while demanding that the State of Alabama and other entities pay their fair share to protect Mobile. We must make Mobile safer, because our lives depend on it!

Creating New Jobs

Connie understands that creating jobs and employment opportunities is crucial to the economic health and well-being of Mobile. Over the last 15 years, she has been a leader in the efforts to bring thousands of top-paying jobs to our region. This has made Mobile County a prime destination for economic activity.

Her participation in business and industry recruitment helped direct more than $10 billion in economic growth and development to our area over the last decade. As a lead negotiator on the economic development project that brought Airbus to Mobile and the signatory for Austal’s expansion, Connie has the experience to create more jobs and build careers that can plant a new generation of families in Mobile.

Improving
Quality of Life

You don’t have to look very far to see the population growth happening outside of Mobile over the last two decades because of investments made to address quality of life issues. It is clear that Mobile has struggled to keep up with the demand for quality and desired amenities. With a history of new parks, recycling centers, senior centers and recreation projects, Connie has real experience in delivering the improvements to strengthen and grow our community. Her creativity with signature projects like the Mobile County Soccer Complex, Aquatic Center, Water Park and Recycling Center are exciting expansions that show that Mobile is serious about competing with other urban centers of the state and stop the exodus to Baldwin County.

As Mayor, Connie will bring about new investments in our area, raise the quality of pay, and increase opportunities for both new and existing workers. She will focus on housing redevelopment projects that address blight in neighborhoods and business areas. The city of Mobile must improve to compete with other progressive areas in order to grow. Investing millions in new jobs, only to see those new families move to Baldwin County, has been frustrating to say the least. To compete in making Mobile a desirable place to live, there must be change in the perception of Mobile, a reduction in crime, an improvement in education, and the ability to provide quality of life and recreational amenities.

Protecting the Values of Mobile

Preserving Mobile’s neighborhoods and historic architecture requires standards and the willingness to enforce them. Connie Hudson believes property owners must take responsibility for their buildings and maintain the quality Mobile residents expect. Vacant buildings, dilapidated businesses and dangerous rental properties must be improved and brought into compliance. The eyesores of Mobile must be razed or improved. This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about making Mobile safe and reducing crime.

As a City Council member, Connie worked to improve the beautification requirements for commercial projects and neighborhood regulations. As Mayor she will lead the effort to raise those standards again. Connie will work with property owners to reach the goals we want, but also believes the City must enforce requirements on those who do not willingly make the changes in line with community requirements. Improvement districts will ensure public safety and restore the unique character that has defined our community for generations. This includes zoning and building expectations along with regular inspections of critical systems such as electrical, plumbing, and building facades to prevent deterioration.

Values

Partnership of Success

From restoration to crime prevention, Connie is committed to utilizing the collective expertise of the community – because no one can do this alone. Connie has spent two decades working with community partners to implement new ideas. She knows that collaboration with organizations, neighborhood groups, civic associations and others with the passion, expertise and willingness to get involved in the community is the key to a thriving Mobile.

As we see this collaboration come to life and we begin to work together, Mobile will explode with growth like never before.
